Job Description:

Square Forensic Consulting LLC is seeking a detail-oriented Building Inspector to join our forensic engineering team. In this role, you will perform comprehensive inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to evaluate structural conditions, identify construction defects, and assess damage caused by weather events, water intrusion, fire, impact, settlement, and other factors.

Working closely with forensic engineers, insurance professionals, and legal teams, you will gather field evidence, document inspection findings, and assist in preparing technical reports used for insurance claims, litigation support, and engineering evaluations. This position requires extensive fieldwork, critical thinking, and strong attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform on-site inspections of residential and commercial buildings.
  • Evaluate structural components, roofing systems, foundations, exterior envelopes, and interior building conditions.
  • Identify construction defects, code deficiencies, and signs of structural distress.
  • Document inspection findings using photographs, measurements, sketches, and detailed notes.
  • Assist forensic engineers in investigating the cause and extent of property damage.
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports and supporting documentation.
  • Review construction drawings, repair records, and maintenance documentation when applicable.
  • Utilize inspection equipment including moisture meters, laser measuring devices, thermal imaging cameras, and drones when appropriate.
  • Communicate findings professionally with clients, insurance representatives, contractors, and attorneys.
  • Maintain compliance with company quality standards and safety procedures.
  • Travel to inspection sites throughout the company's service region as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in building inspection, construction, property assessment, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods, building systems, and applicable building codes.
  • Ability to recognize structural deficiencies and construction-related failures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital inspection reporting software.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regularly.
  • ICC certifications, home inspector licenses, OSHA training, or other industry certifications are considered a plus.

Pay: $26.50 - $32.00 per hour
