An established engineering and manufacturing business operating within the automotive sector is seeking an experienced Quality Control Supervisor to join its team in Alrode South, Alberton.
This role is suited to a quality-focused professional with strong knowledge of IATF 16949, automotive quality tools and CNC machining processes. Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, you will supervise QC Inspectors, support the wider SHEQ function and help maintain, monitor and improve the organisation’s Quality Management System.
The position is based in a steel CNC machine shop and requires a hands-on approach to quality control, process improvement, team development and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the SHEQ Manager and Quality Management team in maintaining and improving the Quality Management System in accordance with IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including procedures, flowcharts, work instructions, control plans and quality records.
- Facilitate the establishment and implementation of QA and QC projects, procedures, monitoring systems and performance measures.
- Support the SHEQ Administrative Assistant with quality registers, databases and records required as evidence of Quality Management System activities.
- Ensure monitoring and measuring resources are available, suitable and used effectively.
- Provide operational leadership and support to QC Inspectors to ensure QC processes function efficiently.
- Ensure QC team members are appropriately trained and competent to achieve the required quality standards.
- Assist with training relating to QA and QC processes, procedures, records and monitoring systems.
- Manage monitoring and measuring activities relating to QA and QC processes, including audits.
- Conduct SPC and MSA activities, interpret results and provide practical recommendations.
- Monitor and report on the performance and effectiveness of QA and QC processes and personnel.
- Analyse quality data, identify trends and recommend improvement opportunities.
- Ensure non-conforming outputs are controlled in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Identify potential quality risks and recommend appropriate countermeasures.
- Ensure approved corrective and preventive measures are implemented effectively.
- Lead and facilitate root cause analysis and problem-solving activities relating to non-conformances.
- Support the Engineering team with APQP activities when required.
- Participate in and lead Internal Audits.
- Ensure quality documentation accurately reflects current operational processes.
- Communicate and collaborate with Engineering, Production, internal and external suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.
- Promote continuous improvement within the QC team and broader Quality function.
- Complete additional QA and QC duties delegated by the SHEQ Manager.
Requirements
Qualifications and Training
- Matric.
- Completion of advanced accredited training in ISO 9001 and IATF 16949, covering:
- Implementation
- Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving
- FMEA
- Control Plans
- Internal Auditing
- Implementation
- PPAP and APQP training will be advantageous.
Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following experience requirements:
- With relevant formal education: At least 1 year of Quality Control experience within an engineering environment.
Or
- Without relevant formal tertiary education: At least 4 years of experience in a Quality Control or CNC setting role within an engineering environment, including at least 1 year in a supervisory position.
In addition:
- At least 2 years of experience within the automotive sector is required.
- Previous supervisory experience is advantageous where not already required.
- CMM experience will be advantageous.
Technical Knowledge
- Steel manufacturing and machining processes.
- Mechanical properties of steel.
- Interpretation of customer requirements.
- Interpretation of technical and mechanical drawings.
- Good understanding of GD&T and its application to CMM inspection.
- Automotive quality tools, including FMEA, Control Plans and PPAP.
- SPC analysis and interpretation.
- Effective use of measuring instruments.
- Customer-specific requirements and IATF 16949 standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Working Environment and Hours
Day shift:
- Monday to Thursday: 07:00 to 16:30
- Friday: 07:00 to 13:00
- Overtime may be required, including weekends.
