Mental Health Clinician – Psychologist / LCSW / LMFT / LPCC
Location: Avenal California
Schedule: 2 Days per Week | 8-Hour Shifts

Compensation (1099 Contract Rates)
- Psychologist (PSYL): $135/hour
- LCSW: $85/hour
- LMFT: $70/hour
- LPCC: $60/hour
Job Summary
We are seeking qualified and licensed Mental Health Clinicians to provide professional mental health services within Correctional Facilities in California.
Under the direction of the Chief of Mental Health or designee, clinicians will deliver comprehensive mental health care to patient-inmates, ensuring safety, compliance, and high standards of ethical practice.
This is a part-time opportunity requiring 2 days per week (8-hour shifts).
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial mental health evaluations including psychological, criminal, and substance use history.
- Perform suicide risk assessments using approved clinical protocols.
- Conduct Mental Status Examinations (MSE).
- Provide crisis intervention, individual therapy, and group psychotherapy.
- Develop and implement treatment plans aligned with community standards of care.
- Apply psychological testing and assessments (Psychologists only).
- Monitor inmate progress and maintain accurate documentation.
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings.
- Prepare written reports for supervisors and institutional staff.
- Review prior mental health and legal records to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Provide discharge planning and transitional care coordination.
- Assist patients with entitlement benefits (SSI) and community resource referrals.
- Maintain order and supervise conduct to ensure safety and security.
- Comply with California laws, confidentiality standards, and mandated reporting requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Psychologist (PSYL)
- Active California Psychologist License.
- Minimum 12 continuous months of qualifying experience within the last 3 years (internship does not count).
LCSW
- Active California LCSW License.
- Minimum 12 continuous months of qualifying experience within the last 3 years (internship does not count).
LMFT
- Active California LMFT License.
- Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
- Minimum 12 months of qualifying experience within the last 3 years.
LPCC
- Active California LPCC License.
- Experience providing clinical mental health services in institutional or similar settings preferred.
General Requirements (All Disciplines)
- Experience in mental health evaluation and crisis intervention.
- Strong knowledge of suicide risk assessment.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a structured institutional environment.
- Ability to meet background clearance and onboarding requirements (Live Scan, TB test, etc.).
- Valid California Driver’s License (if required).
