Structural and Sheet Metal Welder — Cooling Tower Manufacturing

Is this you?

  • Do you enjoy setting wire feed speed, current, and gas to get consistent, clean MIG beads?
  • Are you confident rigging heavy parts with an overhead crane and positioning them for accurate fit-up?
  • Can you read prints, measure precisely, and weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions?
  • Do you like variety—moving between fabrication, assembly, and different production lines?

If you answered yes, you’ll thrive at SPX Cooling Technologies, part of SPX Technologies’ HVAC Cooling platform, where we build the Marley, Recold, and SGS solutions trusted by hospitals, data centers, and power plants.

What you’ll work on

  • Operate an overhead crane to safely maneuver frames, panels, and subassemblies.
  • Tune welding leads, current, feed, and shielding gas for optimal GMAW performance.
  • Cut and form components with hand tools, torch, and welding equipment; prep edges and joints.
  • Assemble and weld sheet and structural metal in all positions (flat/vertical/overhead).
  • Use measuring devices to validate dimensions and tolerances before and after welding.
  • Ensure proper layout, alignment, and clamping to achieve correct fit-up.
  • Follow prints and work instructions; document work as needed.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and adhere to all safety rules and procedures.
  • Collaborate with teammates and flex across departments to meet production goals.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3 years of welding experience in a production environment (preferred).
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication: punching, shearing, cutting, forming, and assembly.
  • Proficient MIG (GMAW) welder.
  • Experienced with light and heavy gauge sheet; materials include carbon black steel and stainless steel.
  • Formal welding training/certification.
  • Knowledge of measuring instruments, hand tools, and pneumatic impact wrenches.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate instructions; write simple correspondence; present information to individuals and small groups.
  • Strong math skills using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Physical demands and environment

  • Regular standing, walking, hand use, and reaching; occasional climbing/balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, or hearing.
  • Lift/move up to 50 pounds; close vision is required.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional fumes/airborne particles.
  • Hearing protection (earplugs) required due to noise; strong focus on workplace safety and housekeeping.
