Overview
Spurlock’s Gun Co. is seeking an experienced, dependable, and highly organized Director of Operations / General Manager to help oversee the daily operations of our established firearms retail business.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can manage employees, improve workflow, maintain high operational standards, and help ensure the store runs efficiently and professionally. The ideal candidate will be confident making decisions, holding employees accountable, solving problems, and assisting customers in a fast-paced retail environment.
Experience in firearms retail is preferred, but strong management, operations, inventory, or regulated-retail experience will also be considered.
Duties
- Assist the President and senior leadership with daily store operations
- Supervise, train, schedule, and support store employees
- Assign daily responsibilities and follow up to ensure completion
- Maintain professional standards for attendance, appearance, conduct, and customer service
- Help develop and enforce store policies and operating procedures
- Monitor employee performance and assist with coaching and corrective action
- Coordinate sales-floor coverage, opening procedures, and closing procedures
- Help oversee inventory receiving, transfers, shipping, storage, and merchandising
- Work closely with the store’s compliance personnel to support accurate firearms records and lawful transactions
- Help ensure required forms, identification, background checks, and transaction records are handled correctly
- Maintain awareness of applicable federal, state, and local firearms regulations
- Assist with inventory counts, product organization, pricing, and loss prevention
- Address customer concerns professionally and work toward appropriate resolutions
- Help coordinate special orders, online sales, firearm transfers, and incoming shipments
- Communicate operational needs, staffing concerns, and unresolved issues to ownership
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend practical improvements
- Maintain a clean, organized, secure, and professional retail environment
- Perform other management and operational duties as assignedSkills
- Previous management, assistant management, or operations experience required
- Firearms retail, sporting-goods, law-enforcement, military, or regulated-industry experience preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage employees respectfully while maintaining clear expectations
- Excellent attention to detail and record keeping
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Comfortable using point-of-sale, inventory, email, and basic office software
- Able to remain professional and composed during difficult customer or employee situations
- Willingness to learn and follow all company procedures and firearms regulations
- Must be dependable, punctual, trustworthy, and able to protect confidential business information
- Must be legally eligible to possess and handle firearms
- Must be able to pass all required background and employment screening
- Must maintain a drug- and alcohol-free workplace presence and never report to work impaired
- Must be available to work weekends and additional hours when business needs require
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift or move merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds
