What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Electromechanical Shop Technician position at Spurgeon Machine Inc?
Job Summary
Spurgeon Machine, Inc. is looking for a mechanically inclined, hands-on person to help with equipment assembly, repair, wiring, tooling, and general shop work.
We design and build specialized industrial equipment, including ultrasonic welding and heat staking systems. This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, figuring out how things work, and doing a variety of mechanical and electrical tasks rather than the same job every day.
What You’ll Do
Typical work may include:
- Assemble ultrasonic welders, heat staking equipment, and other industrial machinery
- Wire electrical panels, controls, sensors, switches, and machine components
- Build and assemble tooling, fixtures, and mechanical components
- Troubleshoot and repair welding equipment
- Install pneumatic components, tubing, valves, and cylinders
- Perform basic mechanical assembly, drilling, tapping, fitting, and fabrication
- Assist with testing and debugging equipment before shipment
- Modify or repair existing customer equipment
- Help with general shop organization, receiving, and preparation of parts as needed
What We’re Looking For
We’re primarily looking for someone who is mechanically capable, dependable, and willing to learn.
Experience in some of the following areas would be helpful:
- Electrical wiring or industrial controls
- Machine building or mechanical assembly
- Automotive, maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or similar hands-on work
- Reading mechanical drawings or electrical schematics
- Using hand tools, power tools, drill presses, saws, and similar shop equipment
- Basic machining or fabrication
- Pneumatics
You do not need to be an expert in all of these areas. We can train the right person. Being careful, curious, and able to figure things out is more important than having a specific background.
Position Details
- Approximately 20 hours per week
- Schedule can have some flexibility
- Work is performed at our shop in Roanoke, Indiana
- Potential for additional hours or expanded responsibilities depending on workload and fit
- Small-company environment with direct involvement in building complete machines and products
This position would be a good fit for an experienced technician looking for part-time work, someone with a strong mechanical/electrical background, or someone earlier in their career who wants to learn industrial equipment building.
If interested, please send a resume or a short description of your experience and the types of mechanical or electrical work you’ve done.
