Huntsville City Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Instructional Assistant to support our Special Education program. As an Instructional Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs. This position requires a commitment to student success, collaboration with teachers and staff, and adherence to Huntsville City Schools' policies and procedures. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of students. You will work closely with certified teachers to implement individualized education programs (IEPs), provide academic support, and foster social-emotional growth. We are looking for individuals who are patient, adaptable, and passionate about helping students reach their full potential. This position is specifically for candidates who either have or are eligible for an MCS Waiver through the Office of Special Education for Huntsville City Schools.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce concepts and skills.
- Support students with academic tasks, such as reading, writing, and math.
- Assist with classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the teacher.
- Help students develop social skills and promote positive interactions with peers.
Requirements:
- Highly Qualified Paraprofessional (AL) status (Successful completion of at least 48 credit hours of college/university, or An Associate’s Degree, or Successful completion of 3 sections of the ACT WorkKeys assessment)
- Erin's Law Online Training
- Jason Flatt Act Training (completed annually)
- Managing Crisis Safely - De-escalation (IN-PERSON) (or willingness to obtain)
