DESCRIPTION: St. Paul’s School seeks a fine arts teacher, with a focus on hot glass, to begin duties in late August 2026. Additional skills in sculpture, glass, and other art and design mediums are welcomed. Courses in the studio arts work from a foundation built on a thorough technical introduction to a given medium followed by project-based exercises that meet students’ particular creative endeavors. The Fine Arts program and the physical arrangements of the studio spaces are designed to encourage exploration of the artistic process between media.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibility will be to teach four courses in fine arts, ranging from the introductory level to the more advanced. Knowledge and experience in running, maintenance and supervision of the hot glass shop, cold shop, welding studio and all equipment are required for this position. Faculty members in the Fine Arts Program value collegiality; candidates for a Fine Arts position must be willing to work closely with a team of teachers in creating and reviewing curriculum. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment working with the other arts teachers and with the broader faculty in advancing the mission of the School and the commitment to teaching and learning in a holistic educational environment. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty at St. Paul’s School are responsible for a variety of activities typical to the boarding school environment, including advising, dormitory association, coaching, committee work and other duties. As with all positions, St. Paul’s Schools seeks educators who will embrace the fully residential living experience and have a demonstrated gift for engaging a diverse student body and strengthening the St. Paul’s School inclusive community.
While teaching positions are typically structured as a full faculty appointment, the School may consider appointing an exceptionally qualified candidate in an adjunct capacity. In such cases, residential responsibilities would not be required, and housing would not be provided as part of the appointment.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience: 3-5 years of teaching experience is preferred, along with experience with metal work and welding, and a proficiency in hot and cold working processes. As part of residential boarding school, the candidate must be committed to working and living with adolescents and supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth.
SALARY: Competitive, based on experience.
