What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst II position at Sprouts Farmers Market?
This position reports into the FP&A group (Senior Finance Manager) and will provide direct support for the Merchandising team, along with the Sprouts Brand / Foraging team. In this role, you will provide analysis to stakeholders in both FP&A and Merchandising, helping to guide discussions and assist business partners in driving financial performance. You will partner with the Finance / Merch teams to create plans and monthly forecasts that accurately reflect the state of the business and provide for a meaningful financial benchmark. You will provide ad hoc reporting and modeling support for strategic initiatives and special projects. This position requires a high attention to detail and the ability to understand and identify anomalies, communicating findings to key stakeholders accurately and timely. This position reports into our Store Support Office in Phoenix, AZ. Hybrid schedule in office Tuesday-Thurdsday.
Overview of Responsibilities
Forecasting, Planning and Budgeting
- Owns assigned processes in support of the development of long-range financial planning, annual budgets, and quarterly forecasts for the Merchandising team
- Refreshes, modifies and understands the financial models that support accurate planning and provide recommendations to business partners & leadership
- Supports P&L forecast processes and highlights key business drivers, risk and opportunities
Analysis
- Analyze and articulate the key financial drivers within Merch Sales & Margin to provide a deeper understanding of the business to leadership; provide analyses that will help support business partner decision making, as we strive to achieve our company financial goals
- Leverages knowledge of Merchandising and Finance, to identify issues and collaborate with key stakeholders to provide potential solutions
- Supports the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives; assist in tracking post-implementation impacts v business case expectations
- Help identify and communicate issues that arise, providing analytical support as needed
Reporting
- Weekly and monthly reporting on key business metrics for department leadership, including insights on drivers
- Provide support for quarterly IR / BOD presentations and any other relevant information needed for the Finance Leadership team
- Own sales and margin processes, including Daily Sales Forecasting and Exec Reporting (full cycle analysis, recommendations, data loads, and validations)
- Partner with the business to understand variances to forecast / budget, and relay ongoing implications of those variances
- Collaborate with analyst peer group, in identifying opportunities to streamline and enhance existing processes
- Work through complex reporting requirements, that ultimately provide a simplified output that can be utilized by business partners to guide action
- Leverage Workday, Adaptive, Power BI, and other financial applications as needed
Other
- Able to assist in project work that spans across multiple teams
- Identify conflicting priorities, and working through solutions with direct supervisor
- Ownership over continued self-development and leveraging finance leadership to support as needed

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related field is required, with an MBA preferred
- Requires a minimum of one to three years of prior relevant experience
- Experience with budgeting, planning, modeling, and forecasting systems
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and the analysis of financial data and statements preferred
- Excels working in a fast-paced environment and able to manage competing priorities
- Strong ability to communicate timely and collaborate with peers, all levels of Finance, and Merch leadership in a timely and effective manner
- Demonstrates confidence and maintains a positive outlook
- Comfortable training peers & business partners on owned processes
- Actively engaged with self-development, partnering with direct supervisor
- Self-starter, can-do attitude, and organized / proactive in managing timing
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Grocery or Retail experience is preferred
- Intermediate to Strong, in Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience in Adaptive, Workday, and PowerBI is preferred
