Role Summary:
A technician who keeps a complex optical research lab running must combine precision with adaptability. This role is built for someone who can move confidently between benchtop fiber-optic work, rack-level assembly, hardware debugging, and day-to-day lab operations. The function is simple in principle: maintain a high-performance environment where engineers can test, iterate, and ship next-generation fiber-optic communication hardware without friction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot benchtop setups used for fiber-optic communication testing.
- Inspect, clean, route, and connect fiber-optic cables with consistent, repeatable accuracy.
- Assemble and reconfigure rack-scale test environments in coordination with engineering teams.
- Assist engineers during hardware bring-up and debugging.
- Manage lab logistics, including shipping, receiving, equipment tracking, and silicon handling.
- Monitor consumables, maintain inventory accuracy, and coordinate purchasing to avoid supply gaps.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor`s degree, technical diploma, or equivalent hands-on experience in a relevant field.
- Two or more years working in optics, electronics, photonics, datacom, or telecom labs.
- Practical experience with fiber-optic cables, connectors, and related components.
- Strong manual dexterity with small parts and the ability to lift up to fifty pounds.
- Clear communication, disciplined organization, and comfort working in a highly collaborative environment.
- Readiness to take on varied tasks in a fast-moving research setting.
Preferred Background:
- Familiarity with optical instruments such as lasers, power meters, and related measurement tools.
- Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, source-measure units, and multimeters.
- Ability to set up and maintain Linux and Windows systems used in lab test environments.
- Hands-on skills in fiber splicing, soldering, or working with high-speed RF connectors.
- Experience managing lab inventory, procurement workflows, or equipment lifecycle processes.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
