Description:
Under the direction of a Library Supervisor, the Library Page is responsible for ensuring books and media are out on shelves, ready to be picked up by library patrons. This position selects materials for, and refreshes displays within the collections, making sure materials are in their correct locations. The Library Page adjusts and straightens materials and may assist customers to locate materials within assigned collections.
Duties:
Responsible for a variety of tasks within the library, including but not limited to:
- Sorting, shelving, and arranging of library material.
- Assists in the maintenance of book stacks including: shelf reading, edging, shifting materials, merchandising, etc.
- Uses reports to assist with weeding, pulling holds for patrons, and checking for missing or damaged items.
- Clears tables, chairs, and other surfaces of library materials left by patrons, and returns them to proper areas.
- Uses loaded, wheeled book trucks and tubs weighing up to 250 lbs. to transport materials.
- Must have good customer service using courtesy, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Answers questions and refers patrons to appropriate staff.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be a high school graduate. Must be able to work 5 days per week.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Must have an aptitude for detail and neatness. Ability to sort and arrange accurately and efficiently in alphabetical and categorical order. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Perform routine physical tasks of bending, stretching, and stooping. Ability to perform basic computer skills utilizing keyboard, mouse, and scanner. Accuracy, punctuality, reliability, and attendance are essential to this position.
Physical Demands:
Performs duties that may include physical effort such as pushing, pulling loaded book truck, lifting, bending, stooping, and walking. Occasionally may lift/carry materials up to 40 pounds.
