Description:
Under the general direction of the Director of Internal Services, this position assists staff with various land GIS and/or engineering activities, including but not limited to: GIS data management, map and plan creation, engineering plan review, GIS software end user support, CMMS support, and GIS maintenance. This position focuses on supporting Internal Services and GIS operations within Springville City. The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in GIS, city planning, utility network, and public works operations. Candidates with experience in, and a high level of energy and enthusiasm for this type of work, will be given preference.
Duties:
- Collects and edits GIS data to support ongoing projects.
- Updates and maintains data within the City's enterprise geodatabases.
- Assists in publishing GIS data, maintaining GIS services, and developing web-based GIS applications using the GIS portal.
- Responsible for aggregating documents and data for the City's asset management system and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Provides general technical support to Internal Services staff with GIS and other application specific software.
- Creates and publishes high-quality maps, graphics, and posters for presentations and reports.
- Assists with survey and aerial data collection efforts.
- Generates maps and other related graphics, using GIS and desktop publishing software.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have at least one (1) year of formal GIS or comparable work experience. Preference given to those with a degree in Geography, GIS, or related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- Foundational knowledge of GIS principles, cartography, and spatial analysis.
- Experience with ESRI products such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, ArcGIS Fieldmaps, and ArcGIS Storymaps.
- Familiarity with geospatial data formats (shapefiles, geodatabases, SDE, etc.) and data collection methods.
- Basic proficiency in Python, Arcpy, and SQL is required. Basic proficiency in HTML, CSS, and Java is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to independently apply technical knowledge to practical applications and develop innovative solutions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and understand construction engineering plans and drawings.
- Must pay close attention to detail and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Must be able to manage time and workload effectively.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time viewing a computer screen. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Exposure to high-stress environments, potentially working around heavy equipment.
