What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Custodian position at Springfield Museums?
The Part-Time position 20 hours per week reports to the Director of Facilities, Safety and Security.
Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:
Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned Association building through a variety of routine custodial work such as sweeping, mopping, washing, dusting, stripping, and buffing floors. Other similar duties as assigned.
Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Sweep and/or vacuum, mop, wax, and buff floors; wash, dust, and/or polish woodwork, windows, walls, sinks, toilets, or other furniture or fixtures as assigned; remove trash and other items to be trashed. Work from a regular cleaning schedule, clipboard, work requests, or verbal instructions.
Maintain area outside the building as assigned; shovel snow or spread sand/salt as needed. Remove debris/leaves or use a blower to clean sidewalks. Respond to emergencies such as snow and ice removal, water damage, etc. to ensure adequate safety conditions.
Perform set-ups of chairs, tables, equipment, etc. for routine meetings, classes, or programs. Clean area after meetings, classes, or programs. Move/relocate furniture, books, or other objects for special projects such as renovations, using hand trucks or dollies.
Assist with the delivery and removal of exhibits.
Maintain adequate restroom and cleaning supplies, including those to be stored in the supply area. Maintaining an adequate amount in storage to perform duties. Maintain order and neatness in work areas; detect and report defective equipment or other questionable matters to the appropriate supervisor.
Perform various tasks as required or requested, such as changing light bulbs, unplugging sinks, and toilets, or assisting other staff members as needed.
Shoveling, snow removal, and snow-blowing. Use of heavy equipment is used for the functions noted and may as well be required when operating general custodial equipment. Position requires lifting and moving objects weighing up to 70 pounds such as when assisting with exhibit deliveries or removals. Exposure to strong chemicals.
The incumbent of this position is considered essential personnel. In the event of inclement weather or emergencies, the individual filling this position will be required to report to work.
Perform other similar duties as required or requested.
Qualifications include but are not necessarily limited to:
Knowledge of cleaning methods, supplies, and equipment. Requires the ability to read, interpret, and follow directions. High School diploma or GED required. One year’s experience is required.
