Job Description:
As a Sports Commission Intern, you will gain valuable work experience through research, event identification and planning, marketing and social media auditing, relationship development with key stakeholders, and more.
- Provide logistical support during events such as the creation of materials, setup, vendor coordination, etc.
- Conduct industry research on sports travel and tourism trends, market analysis, and best practices in sports management.
- Provide support with organizing and coordinating fundraising events to support Sport Commission initiatives and member and partner retention.
- Contribute to team meetings and brainstorming sessions, sharing ideas and insights to improve sports travel and tourism offerings to Springfield.
- Support the Sports Commission staff in administrative and creative tasks such as social media, data entry, report generation, website maintenance, etc.
- Assist in identifying and evaluating potential sporting events, tournaments, and competitions all while considering factors such as feasibility, economic impact, and community engagement.
- Assist staff with the development of proposals, bids, and presentations to attract sporting events and tournaments to the city.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate Junior or Senior currently enrolled in a relevant degree program such as Business Management, Marketing, Communications, Sports Management, or Hospitality
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Knowledge or desire to learn about sports industry trends and understanding of event planning
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to tasks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide exceptional customer service and build relationships with sports groups and stakeholders
- Knowledge of Google accounts such as Drive, Sheets, Doc, etc.
Duration:
- Spring 2026 (January - May 2026)
- Estimated 20 hours per week (occasional weekend hours for events)
