Material Handler - Experienced | Lumber Yard | Forklift Operator | Pallet & Crate Manufacturing Springfield Lumber Co. West Springfield, MA 01089
Job Summary Springfield Lumber Co., a family-owned leader in custom crating, pallets, skids, boxes, and industrial lumber packaging, is hiring an experienced Material Handler for our West Springfield facility.
This hands-on role focuses on keeping production flowing smoothly by ensuring workstations are continuously stocked with the right lumber for pallet and crate builds, while collaborating with planners to set up upcoming jobs. If you have strong experience in lumber yards, pallet manufacturing, or warehouse material handling and take pride in keeping production teams supported, this is a great opportunity!
Key Responsibilities
- Primary duty: Keep all workstations fully stocked with appropriate lumber and materials for ongoing pallet and crate builds
- Work closely with production planners and supervisors to prepare and stage materials for next jobs and upcoming production runs
- Safely load and unload lumber, pallets, crates, skids, and finished products from trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual handling
- Move, stage, organize, and inventory materials throughout the lumber yard and warehouse
- Assist in building and assembling wooden crates, pallets, and skids using hand tools, saws, and nail guns when needed
- Inspect materials for quality and accuracy
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized yard and production area
- Follow all OSHA safety standards and wear required PPE at all times
Requirements
- 2 years proven experience as a Material Handler, Lumber Yard Worker, Forklift Operator, Pallet Builder, Crate Assembler, or similar role in lumber, building materials, or manufacturing environments
- Valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain quickly)
- Ability to repeatedly lift 75 lbs, bend, stoop, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Experience with hand tools, saws, nail guns, or basic woodworking is a strong plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to coordinate with planners and production teams
- Reliable transportation, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
