Title: Transportation Aide

Reports To: Supervisor of Transportation, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent

Employment Status: 9 Months

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualification:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.

2. Experience working with special needs students.

3. Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.

4. Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-03 of the Ohio Administrative

Code.

5. Physical capability to lift students when necessary.

6. Ability to work with student, staff and community members.

7. Bus Aide Training Required

8. CPI Training preferred

9. Willingness to participate in future training.

10. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

General Description:

Serves as a bus aide in the transportation department. Assists the driver in maintaining safety

regulations for school buses during the ride, loading and unloading of students.

Essential Functions:

1. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.

2. Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.

3. Helps maintain safety and security on the bus.

4. Assists driver in maintaining a conducive environment on the school bus that promotes respect,

responsibility, preparation and safety.

5. Under the supervision of the bus driver, monitors and assists students during the ride, loading and

unloading.

6. Works with students, parents and teachers in communicating appropriate bus behavior.

7. Uses appropriate behavior management strategies with students to ensure a safe and orderly

environment.

8. Uses appropriate strategies to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.

9. Lifts preschool and special needs students (up to 60 pounds) as needed.

10. Prompt attendance at all paid meetings is required unless excused by the Transportation Supervisor.

11. Complies with transportation rules and regulations established by the Supervisor of Transportation.

12. Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.

13. Helps maintain safety and security in the buildings.

14. Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e., website, email, voice mail,etc.) daily.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.

2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

3. Responsible for clocking in and out each day.

4. Reports absence into online reporting system

5. Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (example: PO 4122.01 and PO 4170)

6. Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.

7. Conducts other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Additional Working Conditions:

1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.

2. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.

3. Occasional interaction among unruly children.

4. Regular requirements to reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop, and kneel.

5. Lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and materials up to 60 pounds.

6. Repetitive hand motion.
