POSITION: Circulation Assistant
LOCATION: The Library Center – 4653 S Campbell Avenue – Springfield, MO
Classification: Part-Time
Salary Track: 103
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
PAY RATE: $18.11 per hour

A part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work budgeted hours during open hours of the library: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am – 9:00 pm, Friday, 8:30 am – 8:00 pm, Saturday, 8:30 am – 7:00 pm, and Sunday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Current schedule needs include an 8-hour shift on Sunday and evenings throughout the week. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.

This position requires high school graduation, completion of a high school equivalent program such as a GED, or current enrollment in high school or a high school equivalent program. All candidates for employment must be at least 16 years old.

Position Summary
The Circulation Assistant plays a key role in supporting the operations of the circulation desk and ensuring the smooth borrowing and returning of library materials. Responsibilities include checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, and assisting patrons with account inquiries. The assistant may also help to shelve materials and manage holds and reserves. Strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in library systems and procedures are essential for success in this role.
Essential Functions
· Greets patrons and assists with directional information
· Routinely checks-in, checks-out and renews library materials
· Registers patrons for library cards, and other library functions
· Collects fines and other fees, makes change, and issues receipts
· Answers and directs telephone calls
· Performs light copy machine maintenance
· May prepare daily deposits of moneys collected by branch
· May perform routine filing and shelving
· Interprets and implements the Library’s General Conduct Policy
· Consistently punctual for work and meetings
· Completes assigned duties in a timely manner
· Exemplifies professional attitude and demeanor while engaging constituents, including the ability to work and interact with others in a cooperative, pleasant, and constructive manner

· Primarily indoors, with heating and cooling regulated, in a general library environment
Miscellaneous Requirement
