Job Title: Preschool Paraprofessional
Classification: Full Time 34 – 38 hrs/week / Hourly/ Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday – Friday
Reports To: Early Childhood Education Director
Job Summary:
**This is a temporary position lasting until the end of August 2026.**
The Teacher Assistant Classroom Para supports the classroom by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. This position will support specific children in meeting their IEP goals and developmental needs. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. A Teacher Assistant Classroom Para helps implement a quality educational program by developing positive relationships with the children and their parents while maintaining all Vermont Childcare Licensing requirements. The Teacher Assistant Classroom Para observes and documents interests and progress, and relays that information back to parents and coworkers for the children that they are assigned. This position can be in ratio for up to 5.5 hours per week in the preschool classroom.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the implementation of curriculum activities and encourage participation by children with the guidance of the Teacher Associate or Classroom Coordinator.
- Know and understand the IEPs of the children you are working with.
- Actively work to meet the goals of the children’s IEP and developmental needs.
- Modify classroom activities to meet the child’s
- Provide developmentally appropriate supervision for all the children when counted in ratio.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and coworkers.
- Actively engaged in supporting the children in keeping the classroom clean and organized
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and ProCare.
- Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center and back.
- Help complete all required documentation and paperwork in the classroom including the details of a child’s activities throughout their day.
- Maintain an Individual Professional Development Plan
- Complete a minimum of 18 hours of training each year.
- Must complete pyramid model modules.
- Sit with the children during meal times and model good eating habits.
- Attend monthly staff meeting.
- Engage in SAPCC events, activities and fundraisers.
- Follow SAPCC Employee Handbook, Center policies and procedures, state regulations, and PlayWorks Protocols and Procedures document
- Play!!!
- Any additional tasks assigned by the Director or Classroom Coordinator.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry small children, move classroom supplies, and engage in active play. Requires frequent sitting, kneeling, crouching, or crawling to interact with children, and the ability to stay on feet for extended periods while supervising activities indoors and outdoors.
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- At least 1-year experience working with children under the age of 6 years old.
- Highschool Diploma/GED and Childcare Fundamentals or one 3 credit college course in child development.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Be able to give and receive feedback in your work environment.
- Highly developed professional ethics standards
- Access to reliable transportation
- Ability to pass any required background checks
- Be able to maintain a professional environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.50 - $16.75 per hour
