Essential Functions
- Transports students to and from school and other school sponsored events safely, on time, and efficiently.
- Follows Ohio and national traffic safety laws; operates school vehicles safely with respect to road and traffic conditions.
- Follows all pupil transportation standards as established by the Ohio Department of Education and Springboro Community Schools.
- Sweeps van floor daily, cleans glass as needed and keeps van exterior clean, weather permitting.
- Checks van and reports student damage after each group is unloaded.
- Maintains on the van an up-to-date list of students assigned to van, and reports any changes in student riders or stops to the transportation supervisor.
- Follows the route map and route stops as defined for each route.
- Enforces all school van regulations for the safest possible transportation of students.
- Maintains appropriate student discipline providing for safe and orderly transportation; assigns seats.
- Reports on the provided forms, any excessive student discipline problems.
- Supervises students as they board and depart from the van at all times.
- Reports immediately to the mechanic or supervisor, any mechanical problems that may be observed in the motor, chassis or body.
- Completes and submits a pre-trip inspection form before beginning the route each day.
- Reports to the Transportation Supervisor any road conditions and construction that necessitate route changes.
- Reports immediately to the Transportation Supervisor any traffic violations that endanger the van riders, including failure to stop for loading and unloading students.
- Performs extra trip assignments as assigned and accepted under the collective bargaining agreement.
- Cooperates with teachers and advisors, and remains at the site during extra trip assignments.
- Schedules and supervises emergency evacuation drills.
- Maintains valid Commercial Driver's License of the appropriate class with Van Driver endorsement.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age with a minimum of two (2) years driving experience.
- Valid Van Driver Certification (or willing to acquire certification upon hire)
- Maintain a semi-annual driving record check with:
- no more than six (6) points within the last twenty-four (24) months;
- no convictions for driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or a controlled substance during the last six (6) years (i.e., a violation of R.C. 4511.19)
- Must pass annual physical examination.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
- Provide proof of financial responsibility or that s/he is insured by the Board to operate a school van and/or bus.
- Effective Date: 2026/2027 School Year
- Terms of Employment: One-year probationary period.
