SUMMARY: Works with pupil(s) in grades 7-12 placed in the district’s alternative school. The paraprofessional will assist in the management of students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, and any other transitions. The paraprofessional will supervise students and keep accurate records, as directed by their supervisor.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists and guides all students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, computer instruction, and other skills or courses.
- Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
- Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
- Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
- Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
- Assists all students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, and other related non-instructional areas.
- Assists with creation of educational materials as needed.
- Monitors and reports pupil progress in the areas of behavior, performance, and instructional interventions related to individual education plans.
- Assists teachers with implementation of pupil’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) through instruction in a wide variety of appropriate activities.
- Assists teacher with parent contact, as requested, to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
- Participates in IEP process and serves as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.
- Accompany students on the bus which transports the students to and from school as directed and transport students via the district van.
- May pick up and/or attend breakfast and/or lunches with the student as directed.
- Intervenes in potential conflicts for the purpose of minimizing disruptions to the classroom.
- Notifies the administrator of discipline or student related problems.
- Explains procedures and rules to students.
- Upholds district policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates professionalism, exhibits a professional attitude, and models appropriate behavior.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Ohio Educational Aide Certificate with “ESEA qualified” endorsement (obtained after employment).
- Must possess valid Ohio driver's license.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Associates Degree, Successful completion of 2 years of college level coursework, OR passing of The ParaPro Assessment in order to obtain Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Certificate.
- Participation in De-escalation/Restraint Training and any additional training as required by the district.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Effective Date: 2025/2026 school year
- Terms of Employment: One-year probationary contract.
- Hours of Work: 7.25 hours per day / 193 Day contract
- Salary and Benefits: Starting salary $18.45 /hour and benefits as approved in the current negotiated agreement.
