JOB TITLE: Coordinator - Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

REPORTS TO: Director of Multilingual Programs

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PAY GRADE: AI 3

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Coordinator-LOTE will coach and support LOTE teachers to ensure high-leverage language teaching practices, teachers understand and implement the written curriculum, and teachers use authentic language assessments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

• Master’s degree from an accredited university
• Valid Texas Certification
• 3 years teaching experience

Preferred:

• Proficiency in a language other than English
• 3-5 years’ job-related experience in languages other than English
• Experience with curriculum writing and development

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology
• Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teacher effectiveness
• Strong organizational, communication, public relations, intercultural, and interpersonal skills
• In-depth knowledge of state curricular standards as written, taught, and assessed

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Create and provide professional learning through a variety of pathways for campus leaders and LOTE teachers
• Lead curriculum development efforts in all areas of LOTE.
• Support teachers responsible for LOTE instruction, including administering and interpreting related regulations.
• Build staff capacity to access, interpret, and utilize data to inform instruction and refine programming.
• Participate in the development, assessment, and expansion of LOTE programs, including exchange programs, club-sponsored events, and state assessments.
• Develop grant applications to enhance LOTE programming.
• Engage in district and community relations by serving on advisory committees.
• Supports the use of digital technologies to ensure assessments are effectively administered
• Provide support of the implementation of performance-based language assessments
• Remain current in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning best practices
• Support teachers in understanding the Seal of Biliteracy and the Global Seal of Biliteracy
• Participates in district professional learning sessions
• Implement and monitor policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies.
• Performs all other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling (up to 20 lbs). This position will require traveling within the district.

Mental demands: ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Extended hours may be required for the position.
