What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Officer Part Time/PRN position at Sprenger Health Care Systems?
Reports To: Director of Operations
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned,
- Maintains a safe and secure environment for clients, employees, visitors, and families by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel
- Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry
- Obtains help by sounding alarms
- Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; and preventing trespassers
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses
- Maintain environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls
- Maintains organizations stability and reputation by complying with company policies and procedures, state licensure requirements, and JCAHO standards
- Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturers instructions; trouble shooting malfunctions; and informing the maintenance director and director of operations of any problems
- Act lawfully at all times in direct defense of life or property
- Act as a consistent presence to deter criminals
- Report any suspicious/unusual occurrences to authorities and management
- Patrol premises randomly and regularly, including buildings and perimeter
- Monitor alarm systems and video cameras
- Other duties as assigned
1. Facility Perimeter & Grounds
☐ Conduct perimeter walk-through every shift
☐ Verify exterior doors are secure
☐ Check outdoor lighting functionality
☐ Inspect parking lots (staff, visitor, patient areas)
☐ Ensure smoking areas are monitored and compliant
☐ Monitor for suspicious persons or vehicles
2. Building Access Control
☐ Monitor main entrance access (patients, staff, visitors, vendors)
☐ Confirm restricted areas remain locked
☐ Respond to door/alarm alerts immediately
3. Patient Safety (Co-Ed Environment)
☐ Monitor hallways and common areas for inappropriate interactions
☐ Support staff in enforcing gender-specific sleeping areas
☐ Assist in managing separation protocols if needed
☐ Observe for signs of conflict or boundary issues
☐ Ensure confidentiality and privacy standards are respected
4. Detox Unit Support
☐ Respond promptly to medical emergencies
☐ Assist clinical staff with transport or monitoring
☐ Maintain safe environment in waiting/holding areas
☐ Monitor for elopement risk
5. Patrols & Internal Rounds
☐ Conduct documented rounds every 30–60 minutes
☐ Inspect bathrooms, lounges, group rooms
☐ Check for unlocked doors or unsecured windows
☐ Observe for contraband, hazards, spills, or maintenance needs
☐ Ensure CCTV is operational
6. Contraband Prevention
☐ Document confiscated items per policy
☐ Secure contraband in evidence lockbox
☐ Monitor for drug exchange, vaping, weapons, or prohibited electronics
7. Incident Response
☐ Respond immediately to emergency codes
☐ Assist in de-escalation according to training
☐ Secure incident areas until leadership arrives
☐ Document all incidents thoroughly
☐ document timing on video footage when required
8. Safety Monitoring (EOC Duties)
☐ Ensure hallways remain free of clutter
☐ Participate in emergency drills
☐ Report environmental or maintenance hazards
9. Interactions & Professional Conduct
☐ Treat all patients with dignity and respect
☐ Maintain professional boundaries at all times
☐ Avoid gender-biased engagement
☐ Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA)
☐ Maintain calm, non-threatening posture
☐ Report harassment or safety concerns immediately
10. Administrative Duties
☐ Complete shift report before handoff
☐ Document patrols in the security log
☐ Record maintenance/safety issues
☐ Complete incident reports with attachments
11. Emergency Preparedness
☐ Know evacuation routes and shelter-in-place procedures
☐ Assist staff during drills and real events
☐ Check emergency kits and radios
☐ Monitor severe weather alerts
☐ Participate in after-action reviews
12. The dos and don'ts of the position
Our job is safety and security of clients watching cameras, doing round(winter time don't need to be going outside on rounds or into sober living)
We are not to be giving anything to clients including at this time no tubes, no tea bags, no excepting dropoffs cause that is clinicals job not security
If you have problems they are reported to Richard and then Erik if its an emergency and Richard isn't available.
Nighttime shift is all a team no one is above another, we all enforce the rules and work together. Please assist with necessary duties like snack time ( this includes if able to make the popcorn that security has been doing at around 10 pm), laundry, trash, answering phones and things being a team player in all things
Qualifications:
High school degree or equivalent
Work experience as a security officer or other relevant position
Basic computer skills necessary for reporting and communications
Willingness to comply with all laws and institutional regulations at all times
Current TB test
Valid drivers license

Must be able to lift 50 to 75lbs. Raising objects from lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This requirement occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles
Must be able to balance, limb, crouch, grasp, kneel, pull, push, reach, stand and stoop adequately to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must be able to reach and write the English language
Must be able to work inside and outside with exposure to outdoor weather conditions
