Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking Substitute School Nurses for the 2026-2027 School Year. In the absence of the School Nurse, this position works collaboratively with school staff, parents, guardians, and healthcare providers to meet the health care needs of students for the purpose of minimizing absences due to illness, maximizing education opportunities, and creating a healthy school climate.
 

Essential Job Functions:

• Compiles and maintains the cumulative health record for each student in the building to assure accurate and complete health records are available
• Provides emergency or immediate first aid, initiates the incident/accident report,
• and follows-up on all personnel injured on school property
• Provides assistance in maintaining the school's emergency card file
• Assists with the development of emergency procedures to provide care that minimizes the effects of accidents and illnesses in the school
• Assists students, parents, and teachers adapt to chronic health problems of students
• Acts as the school resource person for health information and instruction.
• Maintains a daily record of students seen in the clinic
• Completes reports as required by school procedures and state regulations

Education and Experience:

Required

• Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
• Current (valid, not expired) Registered Nurse (RN) License held within the state of Virginia or other compact state
• Ability to obtain additional license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
• Experience in school, pediatric, public, or community health nursing
• Current (valid, not-expired) CPR certification

Preferred

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
• National School Nurse Certification (NBCSN)

Employment Terms: Substitutes are paid a daily rate determined by level of education: RN w/ Bachelor's Degree: $258.56/ day -OR- RN w/ Associates Degree: $229.51/ day.
