Spotlight Energy is seeking a trading analyst to assist the Commercial and Mid-Office teams with daily operations. This is an opportunity to learn commodities trading from the ground up, interfacing with the Risk, Credit, and Back-Office teams. The analyst will play an integral role in the daily management of Spotlight’s physical and financial natural gas portfolio, and gain exposure to market fundamentals, physical gas flows, storage and transport optimization, risk management, and P&L analysis.
The candidate should be highly organized, detail oriented, intellectually curious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced trading environment. Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy are essential, along with a desire to understand physical natural gas markets and trading operations. Proficiency in Excel required. Base salary of $70,000 – 90,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus an annual profit-share bonus tied to company performance.
Job Overview
This position is responsible for supporting the commercial team through monitoring and verification of trade deals and outstanding storage positions. The role is also responsible for reporting on positions, risk limits, profit/loss performance, and market information. Employees in this role manage the data integrity in the ETRM and assist Mid and Back-Office staff with reconciliation of gas nominations and physical gas invoices.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor and verify physical and financial transactions, storage activity, and outstanding positions
- Manages data integrity of all physical gas deals and scheduling information held in the ETRM
- Serves as a primary point of contact for all Mid and Back-Office questions related to trading operations
- Produce and analyze daily reports related to positions, P&L, risk limits, and market information
- Assists with the reconciliation of transport and counterparty invoices
- Acts as the subject matter expert on ETRM system for the commercial team
- Develop tools and analysis to improve visibility into markets, positions, and portfolio performance
- Contributes to continuous improvement of trade execution processes via automation or other improvements
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of physical and/or natural gas market experience
- Experience in trade control, product control, risk, schedule, commercial operations, or a related natural gas function
- Understanding of physical natural gas markets, pipelines, storage, nominations and/or financial gas products is beneficial
- Experience working with an ETRM system
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Proficient in Excel and data analysis
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively across Trading, Risk, Credit, Accounting and mid-Office
- Demonstrated curiosity and interest in developing a career in natural gas trading markets
