Position Summary
The Assistant Cafe Manager supports the Cafe Manager in operating an efficient and profitable SPoT Coffee location. This role serves as "acting manager" when the Cafe Manager is absent, ensuring consistent adherence to company standards in sales, staffing, product quality, visual merchandising, and operations. The Assistant Cafe Manager helps develop team members, manages administrative functions, and maintains exceptional guest experiences, while being prepared to eventually advance to managing their own cafe.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee daily cafe operations in the Cafe Manager's absence
· Reinforce training for all new hires and test proficiency on each station
· Manage daily bank deposits and cash balancing
· Monitor inventory levels and place orders with multiple vendors
· Support schedule creation and resolve scheduling conflicts
· Partner with Cafe Manager to drive sales growth and create positive guest experiences
· Assist with planning and executing sales promotions
· Maintain proper loss prevention standards and cash handling procedures.
· Monitor and control expenses and labor costs
· Ensure team members are thoroughly educated on product knowledge
· Contribute to performance appraisals for supervised team members
· Manage tip share distribution
· Implement and follow up on new procedures
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years supervisory/leadership experience
- Experience in specialty café or food establishment preferred
- High – volume espresso bar/café experience desired
Skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong knowledge of food safety and handling regulations
- Proficient understanding of culinary basics and espresso drinks
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict management skills
- Strong communication and customer service capabilities
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with inventory management and vendor ordering
- Initiative, forward-thinking, and follow-through on responsibilities
Working Conditions
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
- Physical requirements: lift up to 50lbs, frequent bending/twisting
- Fast-paced environment requiring extended periods on feet
- Hand and finger dexterity for food handling and preparation
