What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Sportrock Climbing Centers?
Step into the role of a Summer Camp Counselor and help create unforgettable climbing adventures for kids of all experience and ability levels. You will work closely with fellow counselors and the Youth Programs Coordinator to deliver engaging, week-long and single-day camps packed with fun, learning, and personal growth. Our counselors play a key role in creating lasting, meaningful memories for the next generation of climbers.
Counselors are expected to commit to full-week sessions, with limited exceptions for planned time off. Camps run from June through August, with mandatory staff training beforehand. This position may lead to part-time employment after the summer season.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cultivate an inviting and supportive atmosphere, and become an integral part of our climbing community.
- Embrace customer experience as a cornerstone of your role, engaging with visitors in a lively and warm manner.
- Actively interact with customers, going the extra mile to make their experiences unforgettable.
- Stay up-to-date and informed on facility offerings found on the website, gym-management software, any recent communications, or elsewhere.
- Effectively manage risk in an indoor climbing environment. Provide a supervised and controlled environment during all our youth and other programs.
- Uphold the gyms rules, procedures, and policies.
- Ability to manage your time clock appropriately.
- Create a healthy and positive growing environment for all youth participants.
- Implement the curriculum created by the Youth Programs Coordinator and Camp lead.
- Effectively communicate to the Youth Programs Coordinator about any areas of concern or modifications needed for participants.
- Effectively and appropriately communicate with youth participants and parents.
- Lead small groups in climbing related activities.
- Give specific instructions to participants and appropriate feedback.
- Follow all coaching procedures outlined in Sportrock coaching policies guidelines.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with co-workers and supervisors about feedback and concerns.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in and around climbing gyms.
- At least 1 year of personal climbing experience.
- Previous experience working with youth athletes.
- Ability to provide feedback on technical and movement skills.
- Positive attitude and excitement for the sport.
- Top-rope certified.
