About Sporting Soccer AcademySporting Soccer Academy is Northeast Tennessee's premier youth soccer development program. Our three-tier pathway—Foundation → Academy → Graduate—provides a clear progression for players at every level. As an Academy Team Head Coach, you'll work with our intermediate-level players who are transitioning from recreational to competitive soccer, helping them develop the skills, mindset, and game understanding needed to advance to our elite Graduate program.
Position OverviewWe're seeking passionate soccer enthusiasts with playing experience to lead age-group teams within our Academy tier. If you love the game, have a strong personality, and want to make a real impact on young players' lives, we want to hear from you!
You'll be responsible for developing technically sound, tactically aware players while fostering a competitive yet supportive environment. This role focuses on bridging the gap between foundational skills and elite-level play, preparing athletes for higher competition and potential college pathways.

Key ResponsibilitiesTraining & Player Development- Plan and deliver three training sessions per week (adjustable based on team needs) focused on technical skill development, tactical awareness, and game intelligence
- Implement age-appropriate curriculum aligned with Sporting Soccer Academy's development philosophy
- Conduct individual player assessments and provide constructive feedback to athletes and families
- Track player progress and identify candidates ready to advance to the Graduate tier
- Lead your Academy team in competitive league matches and tournaments
- Develop game strategies that emphasize player development over short-term results
- Manage match-day operations: lineups, substitutions, in-game coaching, and post-match analysis
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes effort, improvement, and sportsmanship
- Maintain regular communication with players and parents regarding development, expectations, and opportunities
- Collaborate with other Academy coaches and technical staff to ensure program consistency
- Participate in staff meetings, coaching education sessions, and academy events
- Support tryouts and player evaluations for Academy tier placement
- Mentor players on goal-setting, resilience, and personal development
- Help athletes understand pathways to Graduate tier, college soccer, and beyond
- Model professionalism, integrity, and a growth mindset
- Soccer playing experience (high school, club, college, semi-pro, or professional)
- Strong personality – energetic, motivational, and able to connect with young athletes
- Passion for the game and genuine desire to develop the next generation of players
- Excellent communication skills with youth players and parents
- Leadership ability – you can inspire, teach, and manage a team effectively
- Commitment to growth – willingness to learn, develop your coaching skills, and obtain certifications
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available)
- Previous coaching or mentoring experience (youth sports, camps, clinics, etc.)
- Understanding of player development principles
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Current or willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
- Background check clearance (required before hire)

Academy Tier OverviewTarget Age Groups: U10 - U16
Player Profile: Intermediate-level players transitioning from recreational to competitive soccer
Training Frequency: 3 days per week (adjustable based on team needs)
Competition Level: Regional competitive leagues and select tournaments
Development Focus: Technical refinement, tactical understanding, competitive mentality, and preparation for Graduate tier
