Director of Communications & Media

Sporting Cascades FC
Eugene, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 10/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/4/2026
Overview

Sporting Cascades FC is a new professional soccer club in Eugene, Oregon, heading into our first USL League One season. We’re building it from the ground up: the team on the pitch, the club around it, and what a matchday feels like here in the Southern Willamette Valley. We’re looking for ambitious, hard-working people who want to help shape a club from day one.

Role Summary

The Director of Communications & Media runs the club’s media relations and social media and is second-in-command to the VP of Marketing & Communications. It’s a senior, hands-on role. You’ll help the VP set strategy and run the department day to day, and you’ll do much of the writing, pitching, and posting.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as the VP’s second-in-command, helping set the department’s communications and content strategy and representing the department when the VP is unavailable.
  • Keep the club’s messaging consistent with the brand across press, social, and the website.
  • Manage the communications and content calendar, coordinating with Design, Visual Assets, Ticketing, Partnerships, and the Technical staff.
  • Own the project management of all Sporting Cascades FC media campaigns, overseeing planning through execution and ensuring campaign goals are met efficiently and within budget.
  • Handle crisis communications, including advising leadership and preparing statements.

Media Relations & Communications

  • Serve as the club’s primary media contact for the league, local outlets, and national press, and generate earned media coverage.
  • Write and edit press releases, match previews and recaps, pitches, talking points, speeches, and presentation decks.
  • Prepare players, coaches, and executives for interviews, and manage media appearances and press conferences.
  • Handle league and broadcast content requests, and manage the club website.

Social Media & Digital Content

  • Run the club’s social channels (Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Bluesky), including creating content and engaging with fans.
  • Cover matches, club news, and community events live on social, using photo, video, and graphics from Visual Assets and Design.
  • Support ticket sales, merchandise, and sponsor obligations through social and digital channels.
  • Track social and digital performance and report results to the VP.

Qualifications, Education & Experience

  • 8 years in communications, public relations, or digital and social media, with senior-level experience in sports, media, or entertainment preferred.
  • Media relations experience and existing sports media contacts; crisis communications experience required.
  • A portfolio of social and digital work with results you can point to.
  • Strong writer and editor across formats, including press releases, web copy, and social.
  • Experience acting on a senior leader’s behalf and managing multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable with social analytics and scheduling tools, mobile-first video editing, and WordPress or similar.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Passion for soccer and an understanding of the game’s culture and community.
  • Able to work all home matchdays and club events, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to travel as needed.
