Out of School Time Van Driver
This position operates for about 2 hours a day, Monday-Thursday during School Year calendar, September through May. Summer school is an optional opportunity for extended work time. The day begins at about 4:45pm and ends the end of van route around 6pm.
Reports to: OST Site Coordinator and Community Education Director
Position Objective
The Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from the Out of School Time (OST) program of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center Program and the Spooner Area School District’s Summer School Sessions.
Qualifications
The Van Driver must meet the following criteria:
- is employable by the Spooner Area School District’s OST program by successfully passing a State of Wisconsin Criminal Background Check
- Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
- Possess a driving record that is deemed insurable by the Spooner Area School District’s insurance company
- The ability to navigate by map and use internet-based Mapping Software
- The ability to establish, maintain and monitor professional work relationships in themselves and others.
- Possess strong conflict resolution skills and verbal communication skills,
- The ability to maintain confidentiality of all personal student and family information.
Job Responsibilities
- Safely transport students to and from OST programs and summer school
- Check email daily for changes in drop off/pick up schedule
- Maintain order and discipline of students riding the bus.
- Monitor vehicle status
- Visually inspect the vehicle before beginning route paying particular attention to tire pressure and frost and snow on the windows
- Note any warning indicator gauges and lights, brake, tire, windshield wipers, or electrical issues and immediately report to Community Education Coordinator and Director of Maintenance or their designee
- Maintain a fuel level greater than ¼ tank in the vehicle
- When refueling vehicle, monitor wiper fluid level. Purchase windshield wiper fluid as needed.
- Turn in receipts to Site Assistants
- Complete vehicle status form and turn into Community Education Coordinator on Thursdays weekly.
