What are the responsibilities and job description for the Evening Shift Custodian position at Spooner Area School District?
POSITION: Custodian
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor and Superintendent
GENERAL FUNCTION: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining areas of the building as assigned; setup and take down before, during, and after school activities; perform minor repairs; and promote a positive public image of the Spooner Area School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain and be accountable for clean and safe spaces as assigned.
- Setup, monitor, and close out daily activities as required.
- Check daily activity sheet.
- Have activity areas setup prior to scheduled events/activities.
- Prioritize tasks based on public events and/or District needs.
- Assist the Lead Custodian in the development of a written work schedule that ensures assigned spaces will be maintained daily and/or weekly, as needed.
- Use a step-ladder/high jacker lift to clean ceilings, light fixtures, and perform light bulb changing.
- Report needed maintenance to the Lead Custodian.
- Perform minor repairs as needed and/or requested by Lead Custodian.
- During inclement weather keep doors and walkways free of ice and snow.
- Maintain all safety standards in performing duties (i.e., physical safety, emergencies, chemicals, wet areas.)
- Ensure security as activities dictate, including ensuring all outside doors are locked in areas of responsibility.
- All other tasks or duties assigned by the Lead Custodian.
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
- Ability to routinely work up to 10-hour shift.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs on occasion and 50 lbs regularly, without physically straining body.
- Work cooperatively with all school personnel and students.
- Maintain a cheerful and positive attitude when in contact with the public, guests, school personnel, and students.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s Licence.
- Know and follow District guidelines as set forth for the assigned position, employee handbook, and District policies.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy 3122.01 throughout his/her employment in the District.
