This position is in the Special Design Program and Paraeducators may be reassigned during the year based on student enrollment or other factors.Resource Room (RR) Paraeducator
- Work with students on IEP goals (academic, behavior/social, adaptive).
- Support students with adaptive needs when appropriate.
- Work in special education or general education settings to support access to instruction.
- Implement accommodations and modifications as directed by the special education teacher.
- Collect and record student data as directed by the teacher or specialist to support progress monitoring and decision-making.
- Support small-group or individual instruction following teacher guidance.

SALARY: LEVEL 30 on the Paraeducator Salary Schedule. Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar permanent position within a Washington State public school or another state's public school.
Responsibilities
- Assist the special education teacher by providing direct instructional support and training to special needs students.
- Assist with designing and developing curriculum in reading, English, social studies, and math under direction of the teacher for use in the resource room.
- Provide support to teacher regarding individual students and program needs and behavior concerns.
- Provide clerical support in the Resource program.
- Other duties as related and assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent AND 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA degree, OR pass an academically rigorous assessment.
- Must complete Core Competencies within one year if hired into a Paraeducator position (refer to the ESS Collective Bargaining Agreement).
- One year of successful work experience and school district experience preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in working with students who have disabilities.
- Training or experience working with students who have disabilities.
- Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical behaviors.
- Physically capable of lifting a student if necessary (up to 50 pounds), kneeling, and bending.
- Willing to toilet or feed special needs students, if necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a positive, professional, and confidential manner.
- Proficiency in basic communication skills, math, english, and social studies and any other areas related to the targeted grade level of the resource students.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills.
- Ability to utilize soft restraint and de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to see, hear, and listen to the teacher and students throughout the classroom or school settings in order to supervise and maintain a safe environment for a diverse group of students.
- Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
