This position requires 2-3 weeks of on onsite training in our Downtown office, and then will move to a fully remote position. Must have reliable internet and a compatible workspace.
Summary:
The Pre-Assessment Specialist is responsible for conducting thorough patient assessments prior to GI procedures to ensure efficient patient flow and quality care. This role supports clinical and administrative staff by reviewing medical histories and identifying procedural risks in compliance with practice protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-assessments via phone to gather relevant clinical and medical history for upcoming gastroenterology procedures and to determine ASC eligibility.
- Identify red flags or contraindications (e.g., comorbidities, medication conflicts, allergies) and fax back to appropriate provider as necessary.
- Accurately document assessment findings in the electronic health record (EHR), such as GMED, and promptly inform the patient if they have been deemed ineligible for evaluation at our clinic due to their medical history, or if they are proceeding to the next stage of eligibility determination.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations and clinic policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or certification in medical assisting or healthcare administration preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a medical or specialty office, ideally in gastroenterology or a surgical setting.
- Familiarity with pre-procedural requirements, common contraindications, and patient education practices.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and electronic health records.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a high-volume environment.
- Experience with patient triage or clinical screening protocols.
