What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Inspector position at SPM Resources?

SPM Resources has an immediate need for Roadway Inspectors (CEI Level II) for a national full service civil and transportation engineering firm in Columbia, SC. Will be supporting multi-year SCDOT and other municipal infrastructure projects performing, tracking, and observing daily construction activities on a variety of roadway projects.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Will perform work under moderate supervision and receive direction on complex and diverse field assignments and construction oversight tasks.


  • Inspect and construction field work and prepare daily inspection reports and constructability reviews.
  • Oversee daily construction work including work zone traffic control, earthwork, erosion control, asphalt paving, concrete paving, drainage structure installation, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation.
  • Observe construction work in progress to ensure performance with specifications and contract documents. Review coordinated sets of working drawings.
  • Complete daily calculating, reporting, documenting, and communicating verbally and in writing.
  • Compute quantities for items such as concrete, asphalt, steel, earthwork, drainage structures, and traffic control devices.
  • Operate company vehicle, computer, and testing equipment.
  • Analyze shop drawings of moderate complexity.
  • Maintain daily project logs.
  • Give direction to general contractors and act as the owner's representative guiding problem solving and field changes.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-reliance and ability to operate independently with limited direction.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple time-sensitive tasks.
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills with strong report writing skills.


QUALIFICATIONS


High school diploma (GED) required or Associates Degree

  • 3-5 years of construction/inspection experience on roadway projects required.
  • Experience on DOT or municipal roadway projects including daily records and reports on asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, structural work, and erosions control preferred.
  • DOT CEI Certifications preferred or ability to complete in a timely manner (company paid)
  • familiarity with inspections of concrete, asphalt, and erosion control.
  • Knowledge of road and bridge construction techniques, design, DOT specifications and documents, standard operations, policies and procedures.
  • Experience using tools and equipment such as air meter, slump cone, transit, level, and tape measure preferred.
  • SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician, SCDOT Earthwork/Base/Drainage, Pile Driving Inspection, Drilled Shaft Inspection, SCDOT Concrete Level 1 & 2
  • CEPSCI certification preferred.


Salary : $35 - $40
