Split Rock Books Evening and Weekend Bookseller
Split Rock Books is a bookstore in Cold Spring, NY in the Hudson Valley. We are seeking an energetic and independent individual to work as a bookseller on Fridays & Saturdays. We are a teeny tiny staff and are looking for someone excited to contribute to the store and the community.
This position is for Friday, Saturday and occasional weekday evenings (5:30-9)
The range of hours is 12-16.
We are especially interested in candidates with a strong knowledge of kids books.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Be great with customers! Help them find what they’re looking for, make recommendations and answer questions.
- Implement general operational duties of the bookstore including register duty, answering phones, taking special orders, gift wrapping etc.
- Shelve books. Keep sections alphabetized and organized. Refill displays as needed and keep them neat.
- Process website orders and correspond with customers about their order status.
- Upkeep general appearance of the store with sweeping, light dusting and cleaning.
- Assist with end of day duties such as taking out trash and recycling and tidying up the store.
- Assist with inventory control, including restocking shelves and conducting periodic stock checks
- Be available to work occasional evening events at the bookstore.
- Assist with offsite events as needed, including selling books at local libraries when the events fall on the weekend.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A love of reading with an interest in literary fiction, small press, and university press titles.
- Comfort working with the public, both adults and children.
- Ability and willingness to lift boxes and move tables.
- Enthusiasm, energy and independence.
- Being detail oriented with a strong work ethic.
- Willingness to ask questions and ask for help when needed.
- Must be COVID-19 vaccinated and boosted.
PAY AND BENEFITS:
- $16 - $18 hour based on experience / book knowledge, with a merit based raise after evaluation, within 90 days of start date.
