Primary Purpose:

Provide clerical, customer service, cashiering, and operational support for the district's skating rink. Assist patrons with admissions, skate rentals, concessions, parties, reservations, and general questions while helping to maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and efficiently operated facility.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years of age.

First aid and CPR certification preferred.

Experience:

Previous experience in customer service, cashiering, recreation, food service, or a related area preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, employees, and members of the public

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to accidents, emergencies, and patron concerns

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as assigned

Basic knowledge of safe skating-rink practices preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Customer Service and Admissions
  1. Greet patrons in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner.
  2. Assist patrons with admission, skate rental, concessions, and general questions.
  3. Explain skating-rink rules, prices, programs, schedules, and procedures to patrons.
  4. Answer incoming telephone calls, respond to routine questions, and direct calls or messages to the appropriate employee.
  5. Assist with birthday parties, school events, private rentals, district activities, and other special events.
  6. Address routine patron concerns and refer complaints, injuries, safety concerns, or unusual situations to the skating rink manager or supervisor.


Cash Handling and Records
  1. Collect admission fees, skate rental fees, concession payments, party fees, and other applicable charges.
  2. Operate the cash register, point-of-sale system, and other assigned equipment.
  3. Accurately count money, make change, issue receipts, and process approved refunds or adjustments.
  4. Maintain accurate records of sales, admissions, rentals, reservations, and other transactions.
  5. Safeguard district funds, equipment, keys, records, and supplies.


Skate Rental and Facility Operations
  1. Issue and collect rental skates and other equipment.
  2. Inspect rental skates and equipment for damage, excessive wear, cleanliness, and safety concerns.
  3. Clean, sanitize, organize, and properly store rental skates and equipment.
  4. Assist patrons in selecting the appropriate skate size and properly using rental equipment.
  5. Report damaged or unsafe equipment to the skating rink manager and remove it from service when directed.
  6. Monitor assigned areas of the facility and promptly report spills, hazards, unsafe conduct, damaged property, or maintenance concerns.
  7. Help enforce skating-rink rules and district expectations in a fair, courteous, and consistent manner.
  8. Assist with crowd control, patron flow, entry and exit procedures, and emergency evacuations as directed.
  9. Assist with opening and closing procedures, including preparing workstations, securing equipment, and checking assigned areas.


Concessions and Inventory
  1. Prepare and serve approved food and beverage items in accordance with health, safety, and sanitation requirements.
  2. Maintain concession, front-counter, rental, seating, and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  3. Restock merchandise, concession items, paper goods, rental supplies, and other materials.
  4. Monitor inventory levels and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
  5. Assist with receiving, counting, organizing, and storing deliveries.
  6. Follow all food-handling, sanitation, and allergen-awareness procedures when working in the concession area.


Safety and Security
  1. Observe patrons and facility conditions for potential safety concerns and immediately report hazards to the appropriate supervisor.
  2. Respond to accidents, injuries, disruptive behavior, or emergency situations in accordance with district procedures and the employee's level of training.
  3. Contact a supervisor, security personnel, emergency medical services, or law enforcement when directed or when circumstances require immediate assistance.
  4. Maintain awareness of children and other vulnerable patrons who may need assistance.
  5. Follow district safety protocols, emergency procedures, and facility security requirements.


Other
  1. Maintain positive and professional relationships with patrons, coworkers, district employees, vendors, and community members.
  2. Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
  3. Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  4. Maintain confidentiality of district, employee, student, patron, and financial information.
  5. Comply with district policies, administrative regulations, operating procedures, and supervisory directives.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Cash register, point-of-sale system, credit card terminal, telephone, computer, printer, calculator, skate-rental equipment, cleaning and sanitation equipment, concession equipment, and other standard office or recreational-facility equipment.

Posture: Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate equipment, handle money, issue skates, prepare concession items, clean equipment, and complete clerical duties.

Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Environment: Work is performed primarily indoors in a public recreational facility. Exposure to loud noise, flashing or reduced lighting, crowds, food products, cleaning chemicals, moving skaters, slippery surfaces, temperature changes, and potentially stressful situations. May work around children and large groups of patrons.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; accurately handle money and complete transactions; respond appropriately to emergencies; exercise sound judgment; and manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Work Schedule: Must be available to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, school breaks, district events, and special events.
