What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech-Language Pathologist - Part-Time position at SPJST Senior Living?
The Speech-Language Pathologist will screen, evaluate, re-evaluate, treat, form discharge plans, and make revisions in any established plan of care as supervised by the physician. The SpeechLanguage Pathologist will communicate with facility staff and provide support to the facility through training and in-services as needed. Essential Functions •Screen all residents in the facility on a quarterly basis to identify those who have experienced declines in their functional abilities and determine if therapeutic intervention is indicated. Present Language skills recognition, Memory / Cognition assessment and Swallow dysfunction assessment skills to include: - intra-oral maneuvers to assess oral motor functioning - oral motor techniques to identify compensatory strategies for speech and swallowing - tactile sensitivity to palpate hyolaryngeal movements related to voice and swallowing - posture control for self-modeling for techniques of inspiratory and expiratory control and postural maneuvers for swallowing -Rehabilitative techniques to address underlying physiological function that require fine motor skills to: - safely direct the patient to use a postural maneuver such as the cervical rotation, chin tuck and head tilt. - sensory stimulation such as thermal stimulation intra-orally of the faucial pillars - apply instrumental intervention such as Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation and biofeedback with sEMG which requires placement of small electrode placement on face and throat Provide assessment in areas of Apraxia / Dysarthria, Voice phonation, Articulation, Feeding, & MBSS interpretation •Evaluate residents per MD order and establish appropriate treatment plans and goals that meet the specific needs of the individual. •Re-assess patients and caseload as appropriate to determine the need for continued services or discontinuation of services based on patient progress. •Provide thorough discharge planning that will allow the patient to function at a maximal level of independence in the least restrictive environment. •Educate staff, families, and caregivers as indicated. •Identify needs for program development and implement programs according to company policies and procedures. •Identify equipment needs of the therapy department and order equipment according to company policy and procedure. •Complete all required documentation according to guidelines specified in the documentation manual. •Coordinate in-services for facility staff as the need is determined to ensure safe and effective carryover of maintenance/restorative programs and overall care of the residents. •Attend all meetings required by the facility. Educational/Training Requirements Masters in Speech Language Pathology and hold ASHA certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) adhere to the licensure guidelines as established by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
