Summary
The Controller is responsible for exercising sound judgment to make independent discretionary decisions regarding Spiritual Gangsters overall financial and operating workflow. The Controller manages all accounting tasks and applies related policies and procedures and is the key financial business partner to the Companys leadership team and carries out such policies and responsibilities. The person in this role implements controls to ensure compliance with the Companys policies and is accountable for all accounting responsibilities, including general accounting, cost accounting, payables, billing, business analysis, and financial reporting.
Essential Functions
- Lead an accurate, timely, and thorough month-end close process.
- Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bi-weekly payroll.
- Ensure timely filing of all tax documents.
- Manage timely completion of annual audits
- Manage and prepare general ledger entries and reconciliations, journal entries, and analysis.
- Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and related analysis. Collaborate with the management team on any ad-hoc financial analyses of regular business and new initiatives.
- Act as treasurer by securing appropriate cash flow projections and addressing any capital needs.
- Ensure robust internal controls for purchasing, inventory management, credit, and more across the organization.
- Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain unexpected discrepancies.
- Document and understand the Companys accounting systems, hardware, and reporting conventions.
- Ensure standardized and compliant accounting practices.
- Assist in the completion of special projects.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This role allows hybrid work, requiring 2-4 days a week in the office.
Required Education and Experience
- BS in Accounting, Finance or business administration.
- 2-3 years as Controller or accounting manager with a preference for those with retail or CPG experience
- High level of proficiency in Excel spreadsheets
- High level of proficiency with QuickBooks and/or NetSuite
Additional Eligibility Qualifications (Preferred, but not required)
- CPA, CMA, MBA
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Must be a US citizen or have a current work visa.
Physical Requirements
Seeing: Must be able to see well enough to read reports.
Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with customers, vendors and employees.
Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
Dexterity/Feeling: Must be able to type and use technical sources.
