Unlike traditional moving operations, SCS specializes in the receiving, inspection, warehousing, delivery, and professional installation of new commercial products — furniture, fixtures & equipment (FF&E) and operating supplies & equipment (OS&E) — for hospitality, healthcare, corporate, retail, and design projects. We are the controlled first touchpoint between a manufacturer's shipment and a finished, installed space.
Position Summary
The Commercial Receiving Specialist is the front door of the SCS warehouse. You are responsible for accurately receiving inbound FF&E and OS&E freight, inspecting every shipment for damage and count accuracy, documenting discrepancies, and staging product so it flows cleanly into warehousing, delivery, and installation. Clean receiving is what keeps a project on schedule, this role is where accuracy protects the entire downstream operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive inbound shipments (LTL, FTL, parcel, and white-glove) and unload freight using pallet jacks, forklifts, and hand trucks.
- Verify all deliveries against bills of lading (BOLs), packing lists, and purchase orders for piece count, product, and condition accuracy.
- Perform detailed inspection of cartons and crates for concealed and visible damage; photograph and document all exceptions at the point of receipt.
- Note damages, shortages, and overages on delivery paperwork and immediately escalate discrepancies to the project manager.
- Tag, label, and log received product into the inventory/warehouse management system with correct project, location, and item identifiers.
- Stage and put away product to assigned rack, vault, or floor locations by project, keeping the receiving area organized and free of congestion.
- Coordinate with delivery and installation crews to ensure product is complete, accounted for, and release-ready ahead of scheduled dispatch.
- Maintain accurate records supporting freight claims, valuation declarations, and client reporting.
- Keep receiving zones, docks, and equipment clean, safe, and compliant with warehouse safety standards.
- Support periodic cycle counts and physical inventory as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of experience in warehouse receiving, logistics, distribution, or commercial freight handling.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort with documentation: you catch the shortage and the crushed corner before it becomes a problem.
- Ability to read and interpret BOLs, packing lists, and purchase orders.
- Basic computer literacy for inventory/WMS data entry and photo documentation.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently in a fast-paced project-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience receiving FF&E, OS&E, or high-value commercial product.
- Forklift certification (or willingness to become certified).
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems, barcode scanning, or inventory tagging.
- Experience supporting installation or white-glove delivery operations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally, with assistance.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
- Comfortable working in an air-conditioned warehouse environment with variable temperatures.
- Safe operation of material-handling equipment.
Schedule & Environment
Standard weekday shifts (8:00am - 4:00pm) with occasional early starts or extended hours to meet project delivery windows. On-site at the SCS Sarasota warehouse and dock.
