SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
Mountain Technician II is a skilled role essential to the operations and maintenance activities of Spirit Mountain operations in the trail maintenance department. This position focuses on technical maintenance and operations across lift systems, snowmaking, grooming, and trail maintenance. It demands proficiency in electrical and mechanical systems, experience with heavy machinery, and the ability to work independently in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate brings strong critical thinking, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to safety, service, and teamwork.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute skilled maintenance and operations in snowmaking, grooming, and trail systems.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical systems ranging from low-voltage DC to 480V AC, including snowmaking systems, trail lighting, and race infrastructure.
- Perform skilled mechanical and plumbing work related to water delivery systems used in snowmaking.
- Weld, cut, and fabricate components as needed for maintenance tasks.
- Operate heavy machinery such as grooming tractors, snowmaking tractors, bulldozers, excavators, and backhoes.
- Drive and operate support vehicles including snowmobiles, ATVs, pickup/plow trucks, and other utility vehicles.
- Use hand and power tools for a wide range of repair and maintenance work.
- Apply basic rigging techniques and interpret electrical test data.
- Ensure proper documentation, routine inspections, and adherence to maintenance schedules.
- Follow all safety protocols rigorously, including the use of PPE and fall protection.
- Work collaboratively with other departments while managing frequent interruptions and urgent tasks.
- Uphold a professional and positive demeanor in all guest and team interactions.
- Take initiative in troubleshooting and resolving problems in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Hands-on experience with electrical systems from low to high voltage.
- Proficiency operating mountain and maintenance machinery including snow guns, groomers, ATVs, chainsaws, skid steers, and more.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions independently using established procedures.
- Valid Class D driver’s license.
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Availability for shift work including overnights, weekends, holidays, and adverse weather.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, lift, bend, and stoop.
- Capability to lift up to 60 pounds.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable working at heights of up to 50 feet.
