What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at Spirit Life, Inc.?

The purpose of this role is to initiate, develop, and implement individualized resident treatment planning goals through ongoing collaboration with clients, families, colleagues, and interdisciplinary staff. This position plays a vital role in supporting client recovery by providing therapeutic services, maintaining accurate documentation, and fostering a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.

Shift:

  • Clinical hours of operation: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Flexible scheduling available to meet individual needs
  • Evening shift opportunities available
  • Typically, 1–2 weekend days per month
  • Flexible weekday off provided when a weekend shift is worked

Hourly rate is based on degree and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates behavioral and emotional needs of clients and family members.
  • Performs individual and process group therapy sessions including preparing materials for sessions.
  • Manages client files by having all appropriate documents.
  • Communicating with referral sources and company representatives.
  • Attends treatment team meetings.
  • Participates in community meetings with clients.
  • Completes family sessions as necessary.
  • Facilitates utilization reviews with appropriate funding sources in a timely fashion.
  • Attends trainings as necessary.
  • Maintains client caseload daily.
  • Listens to clients concerning all areas of treatment.
  • Maintains safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for clients including crisis intervention.
  • Facilitates process groups, one-to-one sessions, and family sessions.
  • All other duties assigned.

Education/Experience:

Addictions Counseling Certification

  • Full certification as an addiction's counselor from a statewide certification body that is a member of a National certification body, or certification by a state government’s substance abuse counseling certification board.

or

Associate’s Degree and Clinical Experience

  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited college in one of the following fields:
  • Chemical Dependency
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Counseling
  • Nursing (with a clinical specialty in human services)
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience (minimum 3,640 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting.
  • If the experience was not in a drug and alcohol setting, the counselor must provide a written training plan to address competency in chemical dependency issues.

or

Licensure as a Registered Nurse

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth.
  • A degree from an accredited school of nursing. 1 year of counseling experience (minimum 1,820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting.
  • If the experience was not in a drug and alcohol setting, the counselor must provide a written training plan to address competency in chemical dependency issues.

or

Bachelor’s Degree and Clinical Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in one of the following fields:
  • Chemical Dependency
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Counseling
  • Nursing (with a clinical specialty in human services)
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience (minimum 1,820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting.
  • If the experience was not in a drug and alcohol setting, the counselor must provide a written training plan to address competency in chemical dependency issues.

or

Master’s Degree or Above in Relevant Field

  • A Master's degree or higher from an accredited college in one of the following fields:
  • Chemical Dependency
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Counseling
  • Nursing (with a clinical specialty in human services)
  • The degree must include a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting.
  • If the practicum was not in a drug and alcohol setting, the counselor must submit a written training plan outlining a strategy to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency.

or

Licensure as a Physician

The counselor must be currently licensed in the Commonwealth as a physician

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.25 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
