Responsibilities
LOCATION: Wichita, KS
Key Accountabilities:
Provides strategic, client-facing, labor relations advice, counsel, and CBA administration to the business of 10,000 represented employees located in Wichita, KS. The successful candidate will:
- Advise and provide strategic labor relations counsel to leadership team members supporting represented employees in Wichita, KS. Support includes, but is not limited to Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) interpretation, administration, and company policy; positive employee relations; compensation and benefits; staffing and workforce planning; and maintaining a positive culture in a unionized environment.
- Bring a One Team approach to collaborating and building strong professional and empathetic relationships across multiple functions. Take the initiative and collaborate with Human Resources practitioners across the Corporation, including Employee Relations and Human Resources Business Partners and technical, engineering, and production operations clients to deliver human resources programs and results-oriented, data-driven solutions that are flexible for the business.
- Interface with union representatives to build and maintain positive and effective union-company relations.
- Experienced labor professionals may also participate in collective bargaining activities, including but not limited to negotiations planning and execution; project management; costing; language development and sub-committee leadership; and other critical negotiating roles.
- Maintain awareness of legal, state, and federal agency requirements to ensure compliance and minimize potential litigation and/or agency charges.
- Lead efforts to standardize work processes for the Wichita Labor Relations team, where applicable.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience with BA
- 1-3 years of experience with advance degree (MBA or JD Preferred)
- Contract interpretation and administration
- Familiar with grievance procedure administration including settlement negotiations and contribution toward preparation of arbitration presentations
- Effective investigative techniques
- Ability to interact effectively in a matrixed environment
- General knowledge in the field of human resources and/or experience in the area of labor contract administration and negotiations
- General knowledge of state and federal laws affecting the employment of hourly represented employees, including FMLA, ADA, NLRA, EEOC, FEHA, Title VII, State Unemployment, and FLSA
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver persuasive and well-organized ideas in both written and verbal form
- Must be able to analyze complex problems, exercise sound judgment, and appropriately manage conflict
- Provide direction relative to effective labor relations practices
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Labor Relations and/or HR experience in a Lean Manufacturing organization and matrixed organization
- Capability to build effective relationships: partner, engage, influence, collaborate, and develop credibility among functional and program leadership, union leadership, and Human Resources / Labor & Employee Relations colleagues
- Ability to analyze complex problems, exercise sound judgment, and appropriately manage conflict
- Demonstrate robust investigative techniques
- Manage and settle grievances through mutually agreeable outcomes following collective bargaining agreement
- Standardize work to enable consistent performance levels
- Education and/or certification(s) in the labor relations discipline
- Familiarity with HRIS systems, SAP, Tableau and/or PeopleSoft software
