Employment Type: Seasonal, Full-time, April to October
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Seasonal Restaurant Manager to oversee the operations of our restaurant for summer 2026. The Restaurant Manager will be responsible for leading staff, ensuring exceptional service, managing day-to-day restaurant operations, and maintaining a positive guest experience. Spinneys is located on beautiful Popham Beach and has been a staple of the Maine coast for over 100 years. This seasonal role requires flexibility, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal restaurant staff, including servers, kitchen staff, hosts, and bartenders.
- Create staff schedules and manage attendance to meet business needs.
- Ensure all employees are trained on safety procedures, company policies, and food handling standards.
- Foster a positive, efficient, and collaborative team environment.
- Address any staff performance issues or conflicts swiftly to maintain morale and productivity.
- Customer Service:
- Ensure guests receive exceptional service by maintaining a high standard of hospitality throughout the season.
- Resolve customer complaints and issues quickly and professionally to ensure satisfaction.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with regular customers, and encourage new guest return visits.
- Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements based on reviews or concerns.
- Operations Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the restaurant, ensuring smooth service during peak hours.
- Ensure the restaurant is clean, organized, and complies with health and safety regulations at all times.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to maintain efficient service and a high-quality food offering.
- Ensure inventory levels are sufficient, placing orders as needed and managing stock levels effectively.
- Oversee restaurant opening and closing procedures to ensure security and compliance.
- Financial Management:
- Monitor and control restaurant expenses, including labor, food costs, and operational expenditures.
- Assist in creating and managing the seasonal budget, ensuring profitability and cost efficiency.
- Ensure proper cash handling and oversee daily financial transactions and reports.
- Review sales and financial performance regularly to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Marketing & Promotions:
- Collaborate on marketing efforts to create seasonal promotions, special events, and offers.
- Enhance the restaurant's visibility through social media, seasonal campaigns, and local partnerships.
- Coordinate events such as holiday celebrations, festivals, or local promotions to drive customer traffic.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all health, safety, and food safety regulations are strictly adhered to during the season.
- Maintain proper documentation for inspections, licenses, and certifications.
- Oversee regular cleaning schedules and ensure the restaurant complies with safety standards.
- Conduct staff training sessions on emergency procedures, first aid, and food safety.
- Reporting & Analysis:
- Inform Owner on restaurant performance, including sales and customer satisfaction.
- Provide input on post-season evaluations and make recommendations for improvements in operations for future seasons.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Restaurant Manager or in a similar managerial role in the hospitality industry, preferably in a seasonal setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on creating memorable dining experiences.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations, especially during peak seasons.
- Experience managing budgets and monitoring costs effectively.
- Knowledge of Toast POS systems and restaurant management software a bonus.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, particularly during peak season times.
- A degree in Hospitality Management or a related field is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and move around for 10 hours/day.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Fast-paced work environment, particularly during busy shifts.
