Job Summary :
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pre-Op / PACU Nurse to join a a fast-paced, multispecialty Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Nassau County. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients before and after surgery. This role requires expertise in preoperative and postoperative nursing, the ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team, and a commitment to ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the perioperative process.
Key Responsibilities :
Preoperative (Pre-Op) Care :
Conduct thorough patient assessments, including medical history, allergies, and current medications.
Educate patients and families about the surgery process, anesthesia, and expected recovery.
Administer preoperative medications as prescribed by the physician.
Prepare patients physically and emotionally for their procedure, ensuring they feel informed and comfortable.
Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure all necessary documentation and equipment are in place before the procedure.
Postoperative (PACU) Care :
Monitor and assess patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), ensuring they recover safely from anesthesia.
Administer pain management and monitor vital signs, respiratory status, and fluid balance.
Provide education to patients and families regarding postoperative care and discharge instructions.
Identify and address potential complications during the recovery phase, escalating issues to the physician as necessary.
Document and maintain accurate, detailed patient records throughout the perioperative process.
General Duties :
Work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care.
Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and infection control standards.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
Participate in ongoing professional development and education to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry standards.
Qualifications :
Current RN license in the state of New York.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a PACU or critical care setting.
ACLS and BLS certification required upon hire.
Experience with multispecialty procedures preferred.
Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while maintaining attention to detail and patient safety.
