Behavior Specialist Consultant I - Adult Services

Your role on the dream team: 

A day in the life of a Behavior Specialist Consultant I:

  • Conducts visits with Individuals to cultivate, provide and maintain a therapeutic relationship that supports growth and independence.
  • Designs and develops programs and activities consistent with individualized outcomes within the Behavior Support Plan in order to increase each individual’s coping and communication skills.
  • Collaborates with the Individual and all Team members to develop a crisis intervention plan and fading plan (as needed for restrictive interventions) that is effective in de-escalating challenging behaviors, ensures positive interventions are occurring and optimal service delivery is provided.
  • Develops and conducts ongoing training and guidelines for Individuals, their Teams and all related staff regarding how to implement intervention plans, attainment of behavior goals and general education pertaining to Intellectual Disability, Autism and behavioral issues.
  • Provides direct consultation in program development and least restrictive interventions utilizing methods of positive approaches, strategies and learning.
  • Conducts environmental and functional assessments of behavior, determines the need for intervention, and completes assessment reports within designated time frames.
  • Schedules and conducts home and day setting visits as well as at other places or events where a visit may occur to develop a support plan and evaluate and revise as needed the status and effectiveness of interventions and the overall behavior plan.  
  • Evaluates behavior data and provides input into annual plan revisions, Medication Review paperwork, discussions with healthcare providers, etc.
  • Attends, participates in and facilitates meetings that include but are not limited to an        annual plan reviews, Medication Review appointments, Team meetings, Program Review Committee (PRC), Human Rights Team (HRT), Behavioral Health Arrangement (BHA) meetings, etc. 
  • Completes all documentation timely and reviews all applicable reports.
  • Completes all mandated and in-service professional development trainings and certification requisites.
  • Maintains standards of confidentiality and ethical practice.
  • Performs duties as requested or in an emergency for the best interests of SPIN and the health and welfare of all Individuals and employees.  

Our investment in you:

  • General Schedule: Monday-Friday 40 hours, weekly schedule needs to be flexible and varied in order to accommodate caseload needs and position accountabilities.  Some evenings may be required. 

The tools you will need:

  • Educational requirements: 
  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Psychology, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, Education, Applied Behavior Analysis or Gerontology.
  2. Previous experience (at least 2 years) working with adults as a Behavior Specialist Consultant and/or has experience with adults with co-occurring behavioral health disorders and/or Intellectual Disabilities and Autism. 
  • Must also meet the following standards:
  1. Successful completion of and Certification in Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA).
  2. Training in Positive Behavioral Supports.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, own/use a vehicle in good working order and have current automobile insurance.
  • Must have the ability to work independently as well as with Managers, support staff, external groups including families,  etc.
  • Needs organizational skills and must be able to manage a large caseload.
  • Possess exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with computer systems such as MS Office and other systems used at SPIN in order to maintain, update and complete position accountabilities.
