What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Engineer (Mid-Level) position at SpiderRock Holdings LLC?
Systems Engineer (Mid-Level) will work SpiderRock’s established engineers and leadership to help build and scale the core infrastructure that powers our trading platform. This role will take tough systems problems, write high-performance code, and understand how software meets hardware. The mid-level Systems Engineer will work on everything from messaging systems to performance monitoring, collaborating with application and DevOps teams to deliver reliable, high-throughput systems. The right person will love to move fast, solve hard problems, and have fun doing it.. This is a full-time salaried position in our Chicago office and report to the Head of Infrastructure team.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Design, build, maintain high-throughput, low-latency systems software.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across distributed systems.
- Contribute to the evolution of our infrastructure for scalability and performance.
- Work independently to dig into challenging problems - while knowing when to ask for help.
- Collaborate with application and DevOps teams to support trading platform development.
- Apply a deep understanding of system usage design decisions.
WHAT SPIDERROCK IS LOOKING FOR
- 4-year college degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business, or related discipline or equivalent work experience
- 4-5 years of professional experience writing system-level code in C#, C , or a similar language.
- Strong knowledge of operating system abstractions (Windows or Linux).
- Deep understanding of networking fundamental.
- Familiarity with high-throughput and distributed systems.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Proven track record of solving problems in a fast-paced environment.
- A mindset for digging in and figuring things out, with a balance of independence and collaboration.
- Experience with kernel bypass technologies, a high plus.
- Background in performance tuning, allocations and GC, highly preferred.
- Curiosity about how software interacts with hardware at a low level.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
