CAD/LiDAR TECHNICIAN POSITION SUMMARY Spicer Group is seeking a qualified CAD/LiDAR Technician to join our Ohio surveying operations in either our Independence or Maumee office locations. This position works directly with our professional surveyors and geospatial experts by drafting detailed topographical profiles, construction drawings, and related maps and specifications used in planning and construction of civil engineering and surveying projects. Our CAD/LiDAR Technicians use cutting-edge technology and are an integral part of our project team by performing office and CAD-related activities. - CAD/LiDAR technician performing non-routine and complex drafting/GIS/geospatial assignments to company and industry standards
- Knowledge of horizontal and vertical datums and units
- Create 3D CAD models of existing conditions of the civil environment from LiDAR data
- Extract features from LIDAR datasets in 2D and 3D
- Integrates data collected from various methods to a single comprehensive CAD or GIS deliverable
- Must inherently be a fast learner, pickup on technical principles & theory, while performing the practical implementation of the latest surveying and geospatial technology on the market
- Establishes and maintains schedules and provides progress reports
- Reviews all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting to Project Manager for review (use standard check lists set up for quality control, on each project)
- Attends regularly scheduled meetings with Project Managers, client managers and clients
- Represents department in firm wide CAD and GIS activities

- Prior experience working with airborne, mobile, or static LiDAR datasets a significant plus
- Experience building models for construction projects a significant plus
- Minimum of high school or technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting or equivalent experience
- Certifications or training in surveying and/or engineering principles a plus
- Requires 2 or more years of progressive computer drafting, GIS and surveying/geospatial industry experience. Industry experience preferred.
- Experience with Ohio DOT, or other State DOT’s a plus
- AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation/InRoads/Geopak/OpenRoads, experience a plus
