Lakeland, FL Full Time
POSTED ON 3/23/2026 CLOSED ON 4/22/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Services Engineer position at Spherion Staffing Central & Coastal Florida?

Are you an Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineer who thrives on technical troubleshooting and direct client interaction?

SpherionDIRECT is searching for a highly skilled and seasoned Field Service Engineer to join a leading water purification company in Florida. This is a critical client-facing role that requires strong technical expertise, high-level travel, and the ability to manage complex projects from diagnosis to quoting.

This opportunity offers more than a career; it offers the chance to become a leader who controls their own schedule after training, minimizes customer downtime, and generates revenue opportunities, helping you and the business get to a better place.

Note: We are specifically seeking candidates with hands-on troubleshooting experience. Design and Product Engineers are not a fit for this highly customer-centric role.

The Role: Technical Service & Support

The Field Service Engineer provides essential technical service and support for advanced water purification equipment across the Florida territory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative and emergency maintenance on complex water treatment systems (Reverse Osmosis, EDI, UV systems). This includes installing expendables, troubleshooting malfunctions, and performing system cleaning/sanitization.
  • Installation & Commissioning: Assist in the startup, testing, and commissioning of new water systems for industrial clients.
  • Client Management & Audits: Serve as a key client-facing resource, conducting system audits, check-ins, and effectively communicating with clients and the internal team.
  • Revenue Generation: Utilize troubleshooting experience to gather information in the field and generate technical quotes, up-selling or suggesting products/services as needed.
  • Documentation: Write thorough technical reports detailing work performed, system improvement recommendations, and accurately documenting all work, parts, and time.

Schedule & Travel Expectations

This role is best suited for a disciplined professional who manages their schedule and is comfortable with frequent travel.

  • Work Hours: 6:00 AM until project completion (average 45–50 hours/week).
  • Travel: Approximately 75% travel (mostly local, some out-of-state). Expect an average of 7 overnight stays per month, often with short notice.
  • On-Call: Will have required on-call shift rotations, including weekends as needed.
  • Compensation: Per diem, housing, and travel pay are offered for all out-of-county projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 7 years of mechanical or electrical industry experience.
  • Technical Acumen: Proven, strong troubleshooting experience with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, piping & instrumentation diagrams, or electrical schematics is highly preferred.
  • Self-Management: Highly self-motivated, results-oriented, organized, and energetic, with the ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Logistics: Must be able to frequently and safely drive company vehicles (vans, box trucks, tractor trailers) and be capable of obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of hire.
  • Longevity: Preference for candidates who demonstrate job tenure of at least 4–5 years in recent roles.
  • Clear Requirements: Must hold a current, valid U.S. Driver's License with a good driving record, pass a 10-panel drug screen, and successfully complete both a Spatial Reasoning Assessment and a General Skills Assessment.
