Role
This role focuses on the daily operations of the Symitar system, including automation, system optimization, application support and troubleshooting, software implementation, and new releases. In addition, this role is responsible for delivering solutions to meet business objectives, application integrations and acting as the primary contact for critical incidents related to the core financial system. They manage a team consisting of business analysts and Symitar programmers responsible for ensuring the efficient and reliable functioning of the core system. This role is expected to learn and understand the credit union processes and requirements necessary to properly serve the business units. A culture of transparency is expected to be cultivated and maintained regarding workload that includes Help Desk tickets, business requests and project work. This role is expected to partner with business units to prioritize the workload.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages the information reporting and core systems (Symitar Episys) of the Credit Union to include, but not limited to: Core system software maintenance, OPCON, Scheduling and Integration software, SQL, databases, Power-On, custom reporting and programming, all routine core business functions, providing reports, AIX (IBM) software, core integrated processes and functions and process scheduling.
- Directs and manages the Core Support and Development team to ensure that in-house systems, programming, installations and operations support the goals and objectives of the credit union. Coaches and directs staff in operational activities to ensure compliance with department goals, Credit Union objectives, external regulations and budgetary requirements. Creates opportunities for employee development. Performs performance appraisals, establishes goals and action plans. Coordinates performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions. Makes hiring, promotion and termination decisions.
- Manages Core Support and Development documentation accuracy and completeness to comply with State and Federal regulation, Core Support and Development best practices function coverage and disaster recovery. Effectively fosters and maintains relationships with 3rd party vendors; researches, recommends and negotiates the purchase of software, peripherals, maintenance and consultants as appropriate to support the data processing infrastructure.
- Maintains awareness of changing trends within the Credit Union industry and makes recommendations for changes or implementations. Reviews team objectives, results and action plans to reach future goals with VP Strategic Execution on a regular basis.
- Fosters and maintains collaboration and interaction with Information Technology team.
- Establishes short and long-term technology plans with Senior Management that promote Credit Union growth and enhance services to the members.
- Assists with the preparation of an annual expenditures budget that is consistent with the overall strategic plan for Core Support and Development and the Credit Union.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience: Five years or more of Symitar Episys and PowerON development experience required. Three to five years of managerial experience preferred. Financial Institution experience preferred.
Education/Certifications/Licenses: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
Interpersonal Skills: The ability to effectively manage, motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/ or externally) is an important part of the job.

- In-depth knowledge of Symitar, best practices, programming concepts, strategies, methodologies and their application to business opportunities. Knowledge of database management and programming methodologies; business operations, objectives and strategies; and, project planning methodologies, tools, development and programming standards and guidelines. Advanced knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques.
- Proven ability to promote a team environment among team members with diverse skill sets. Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills. Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills. Willingness and ability to continue education and training to strengthen, maintain and advance job skills.
- Maintain knowledge with training in BSA Compliance - every staff member is required to uphold the credit union’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Customer Identification Program (CIP), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policies and procedures. This includes required BSA reporting. Specific functions such as tellers and front-line staff within Spero Financial will take into consideration the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity that is relevant to the department and report such activity. In addition to any other assigned training courses, BSA, CIP, OFAC and AML related courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and/or Compliance Departments.
- Required to maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, USA Patriot Act, and Office of Foreign Assets Control requirements. Comply with all Spero policies and procedures to ensure compliance with such regulations.
