What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transmission Line Engineer position at Spencer Ogden?
We are seeking a skilled Transmission Line Engineer with at least 4 years of experience in the design, analysis, and construction of high-voltage transmission lines. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of industry standards, structural analysis, and project execution for overhead and underground transmission systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review transmission line designs (69kV to 500kV), including structure loading, conductor selection, and insulation coordination.
- Perform PLS-CADD modeling, sag-tension calculations, and structural analysis for steel, wood, and composite poles/towers.
- Ensure designs meet NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and client-specific standards.
- Collaborate with civil, electrical, and environmental teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Provide technical guidance during procurement and construction phases, including resolving field issues.
- Prepare engineering reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and quality assurance processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (or related field).
- Minimum 4 years in transmission line engineering.
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and related software.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and GIS tools.
- Strong understanding of transmission line design principles, material specifications, and construction practices.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
- Engineer-in-Training, with ability to obtain Professional Engineer license within 1–2 years.
