Custodian - Grounds, Landscaping, Snow Removal

* Maintain all grounds, exterior walks, driveways, sports fields and parking lots * Recommends, plans and implements landscaping projects * Care for established lawns and fields by watering, mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls * Mow, edge and trim lawns using push mowers, power mowers, edgers, tractors or manual equipment as required * Prune and/or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws. * Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders * Provide support in the setup, tear down and cleaning for any and all extracurricular events, both interior and exterior, during regularly scheduled work hours * Work with athletic department to ensure fields are maintained made ready for play for all scheduled sports events as required * Provide support to building custodian staff district-wide on an as needed basis and during times when weather prohibits exterior work and/or as directed by supervisor * Maintain fencing, gates or other devices as occur onsite * Remove snow and ice from roads, parking areas, driveways, paths, walks, exterior stairs as required to provide safe and accessible travel and as directed by supervisor * Apply salt and sand as required on roads, parking areas, driveways, paths, walks, exterior stairs as required to provide safe and accessible travel and as directed by supervisor * Operate District motor vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, dump body vehicles and attachments, snow plows, snow blowers, gas powered chain saws, clippers, sod cutters, pruning saws, etc. * Use of hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, axes, etc. * Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches using hand or power tools. * Remove and store plow equipment from vehicles after snow season is complete. Clean, repair, repaint, lubricate and service all equipment as required to ensure ease of fitment for the next snow season. * Other duties as assigned PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach about the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
